Foster a Parrot
Birds can make wonderful pets, and rather than buying a bird for sale or finding a bird breeder, adopting a bird from an animal shelter or rescue organisation is the perfect way to add a bird to your family.
Keep in mind, there is a lot you will need to know when you provide a home for a bird. You will need to learn what to feed them, how much exercise or attention your bird needs, and many other important things about how to house and care for a bird.
Types of birds
There are different types of birds including African Grey, Amazon, Budgie, Caique, Canary, Cockatiel, Cockatoo, Conure, Dove, Eclectus, Finch, Kakariki, Lorikeet, Lovebird, Macaw, Mynah, Parakeet, Quaker, Parrotlet, Pigeon, Pionus, Poicephalus (including Senegal and Meyer's), Ringneck, Rosella, Softbill and Toucan.
Pet adoption saves lives. Adopt a pet and you'll have a friend for life! Please consider a rescue pet before you buy a pet from a breeder or pet store.
Upon entering the BPRWs adoption program, each bird is examined by a certified avian veterinarian and security microchiped, then the bird resides with a foster home carer where he/she has the opportunity to socialise with other birds, volunteers and potential adopters.
The birds also work with a trainer if necessary to resolve issues and learn new skills. All potential adopters spend hands-on time with their potential adoption bird before adoptions are finalized.
Life with a parrot involves a special commitment and we believe that education is the key to maintaining a successful relationship.
We will be looking for the homes that will be the best home and will be able to afford the food, toys, cages and vet bills they will incur over their lifetime.
